Design Project: White Label

White LabelThe TRIO design team quickly received a sign-off on the floor plan from the clients and contacted their custom fabricators. One of the benefits of working with a design firm that is integrated with a store fixture company, such as TRIO is, means that the entire build-out process is streamlined.

The retail space is a modest 600 square feet in the tony Union Square area. This square footage requires clever planning and smart merchandising. A new fixture system from one of our suppliers proved to be the ideal solution. It met the twin criteria of reflecting the refined aesthetic identified with upscale fashion and, more prosaically, fitting a lot of product in a small space. The system includes a slatwall strip that features integrated recessed lighting, which unobtrusively bathes the merchandise in a soft back light. The modular system also has floor displays that accommodate the same fixtures as the wall display. “This fixture system gives designers considerably more latitude. This high-concept look isn’t just for the Neiman’s and Nordstrom’s anymore,” said TRIO Store Designer Bill Mondigo, “and just a few of these fixtures will make an impact on any retail environment.”

In keeping with the mod theme, the owners chose a simple black, white, and silver palette. These colors reflect and bounce illumination, making the lighting placement paramount. TRIO Design went with recessed light boxes containing three spotlights each to bathe the interior in a softer ambient light while highlighting product is accomplished by using a monorail tracklight outfitted with pendants and swivel heads.

White Label opens in late spring.
